Common questions

Underground & fiber construction — answered

What does AMS Utilities do?

AMS Utilities is an underground-utility and fiber-optic construction contractor based in Loxley, Alabama. We self-perform directional boring (HDD), trenching, vibratory plowing, conduit and duct installation, vault and handhole setting, and underground fiber and cable placement — typically as the full scope of a job rather than one-off services.

Where does AMS Utilities work?

Our home base is Baldwin County, Alabama, with core coverage across Baldwin, Mobile, and Escambia counties. We also take work across the wider Gulf Coast and Southeast — including the Florida panhandle, Georgia, and South Carolina — and mobilize crews to where the work is.

Who does AMS Utilities work for?

We work for the organizations that build underground networks: telecom and fiber providers (ISPs), electric utilities and cooperatives, municipal and county utility boards, broadband and BEAD-funded programs, and the general contractors and prime/turf vendors who sub out underground construction.

Does AMS self-perform the work or sub it out?

AMS self-performs its core scope — boring, trenching, plowing, conduit, vault setting, and fiber placement — with its own crews and owned fleet (four directional drills, two vacuum trucks, three excavators, and two plows). For larger programs we scale capacity with vetted subcontractors.

Is AMS Utilities insured?

Yes. AMS operates as Alliance Mechanical Solutions, LLC, carries general liability and workers' compensation insurance, employs CDL-licensed drivers, and holds USDOT number 2929287. Proof of insurance is provided to buyers evaluating AMS for a job.

How long has AMS Utilities been in business?

AMS Utilities (Alliance Mechanical Solutions, LLC) was established in 2010 and is family-owned and operated, with 15 years of owner experience in underground and utility construction.

Can AMS handle other underground utilities besides fiber?

Yes. While fiber-optic and telecom work is our current focus, the same crews and equipment install other underground utilities, and we're open to water, sewer, electric, and gas-conduit work across the Southeast.

Can AMS bore under a road or highway?

Yes. Directional boring (HDD) is how we cross under roads, highways, driveways, and waterways without open-cutting the pavement. State-highway crossings are done under an ALDOT right-of-way permit; county roads through the county highway department, bored to the permitted depth and cover.

Why install fiber underground instead of aerial on the Gulf Coast?

Underground infrastructure is far more resilient to hurricanes and high winds than aerial lines on poles — a real advantage on a storm-exposed coast. Buried fiber and conduit are protected from weather, traffic, and tree damage, and need less long-term maintenance.

How does AMS handle the high water table and sandy soil here?

Baldwin and Mobile counties sit on sandy coastal soils with a high water table. AMS plans for it — drilling-fluid management to keep bores stable in loose sand, dewatering where open cuts go below the water line, and proper bedding and compaction so installs don't settle.

How do I request a bid from AMS?

Call (251) 943-0267 or email the team to request a quote or a bid, or to ask for AMS's capability information. We respond to RFPs and can register as a subcontractor with primes and general contractors.

Have underground or fiber scope to award?

Tell us the route, the schedule, and the spec. We'll bore, trench, and pull it — and you'll have one accountable, self-performing contractor on the job.
